Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst football honored their seniors Saturday afternoon to open up the month of November against Seton Hill. The Lakers found themselves in a defensive battle, ending on the wrong side of the scoreboard, 14-0.
How it Happened
Seton Hill jumped out in front in the early going thanks to a rushing score. The Griffin's Ky'Ron Craggette found the end zone on a 43-yard run on their opening drive of the game to make it 7-0 at the 11:50 mark. Mercyhurst was able to tighten up their defense from there and keep the deficit at seven going into the second period.Â
The Laker's defense continued to stay strong throughout he majority of the second period as they were able to keep their counterpart scoreless for nearly 27 minutes. It was not until the final minute of the half that Seton Hill was able to get on the board again. This time around, it was a passing score that got the job done to help the Griffins make it a 14-0 game going into the halftime break.
The third period went by quietly as neither team was able to score. The Laker's defense shut down the opposition as they gained only 22 yards in the period with all but one coming on the ground. Mercyhurst did well for themselves through the air in the frame with 60 yards and threaten to put their first points on the board, but were denied as they went into the final period of play down 14-0.
The fourth went by without a whimper as well as neither team was able to score once again. Mercyhurst had a trio of chances to put a dent in the scoreboard in the quarter, but were unsuccessful as their drives stalled out before then could get deep into enemy territory, falling to 2-8 on the year.
