Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball Team is riding a three-game winning streak, as they are now preparing for three games in seven days, with two of them being PSAC matchups. After securing a non-conference win at Ohio Dominican last week, the Lakers are now 3-2 on the season. On Friday, December 1st, the team will travel to East Stroudsburg to take on the Warriors. Mercyhurst will then travel to Kutztown University on Saturday, before heading back to Erie for a December 7th matchup with Tiffin University.
Scouting East Stroudsburg:
The Warriors are 2-2 to start the year. Coming off a 15-14 overall record a season ago, East Stroudsburg hopes to do some damage in the PSAC East. As a team, The Warriors average 54.5 points a game, and give up close to 60. Izzy Vogel averages 11.8 points and 4.0 rebounds a game to lead the charge. Fellow guard, Cassidy Saylor, has also had a strong start, averaging 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. Tip off for Friday's matchup is scheduled for 3:00 PM in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Scouting Kutztown:
Like the Lakers, the Golden Bears are coming off a .500 season in 2022-23. To start the year, Kutztown posts a 1-3 record and will battle Edinboro before meeting with Mercyhurst on Saturday. Despite the 1-3 record, the Golden Bears do bring some offensive fire power. Naia Pulliam and Abbey Hearn average 17.3 and 12.8 points per game respectively. The Game is slated for 1:00 PM on Saturday in Kutztown, PA.
Scouting Tiffin:
The Lakers will then host Tiffin University for a 12:00 PM tip-off on Thursday, December 7th, for what will be the programs Shoot for Success Day. After a 1-3 start, it is a game where Tiffin will try and rectify a 21-point defeat they suffered to the Lakers a season ago. Kristin Williams and Savanah Richards both score over ten points a game for the Dragons, but it will be tough sledding going against a Laker defense that only allows 55 points a game.
Laker Outlook:
After dropping their first two games of the season, which could have gone either way, the Lakers have responded in a big way by winning three in a row. Offensively, the Lakers are led by Bailey Kuhns and Danielle Grim. Kuhns and Grim both average over 15 points per game. The inside out attack between the two gives the floor balance that makes it difficult for opposing defenses. Paige Woodford, Lauren Klare, and Julia Buchman have also put-up great minutes and numbers, both offensively and defensively, helping the Lakers shoot over 42% from the field.
