Women's Hockey Travels to RIT for CHA Road Opener

Rochester, NY. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team will hit the road for the first time in CHA play as they travel to RIT for a weekend series with the Tigers.  The Lakers will look to get their first road win of the season in this series.  Puck-drop for Friday's game is set for 6 PM. 

  1. History Lesson 

The Lakers and Tigers played four times a season ago.  The Lakers won the season series 3-0-1, outscoring the Tigers 16-3 in the four games.  Sara Boucher had a hat trick in back-to-back games against the Tigers.  Ena Nystrom had 86 saves in the four games and added a shutout.       

  1. Flashback 

This past week the Lakers played host to Robert Morris for the CHA opener.  Game one saw 13 different Lakers record a point in a 9-2 win.  Sara Boucher recorded a hat trick in her 100th career game.  Sydney Pedersen had four assists.  Olivia Cvar and Marielle Parks both had three points.  Ena Nystrom saved 22 shots in the win.  In game two, the game was tied 1-1 late in the third period.  After Robert Morris scored to take the lead, Sofia Ljung tied it at two.  An unfortunate bounce that didn't go the Lakers' way saw Robert Morris take a 3-2 lead late and come away with the win.           

  1. CHA Leaders 

Sydney Pedersen is first in the CHA in assists with 10 and assists per game with 0.83 per game.  Pedersen is also tied for first in blocked shots with 26.  Sara Boucher is tied for second in goals and points in the CHA.  Thea Johansson and Marielle Parks are also tied for second in goals.  Johansson leads the CHA in shots with 55.  Ena Nystrom is second in the CHA in saves and save percentage.   

  1. Stat Leaders 

Sara Boucher, Thea Johansson, and Marielle Parks are all tied for the team lead in goals with six.   Sydney Pedersen leads the team in assists with ten and has blocked 26 shots as well.  Boucher leads the team in points with twelve and is second in assists with six.  Johansson is third on the team in points with ten.  Ena Nystrom is 4-7-1 with a .914 save percentage, 2.75 goals allowed average and 340 saves.   

  1. A Look at the Opponent 

The Tigers are 5-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the CHA this season.  They are coming off a series split in their CHA opener with Lindenwood.  The Tigers are averaging 2.5 goals per game and are outscoring their opponents 27-25 so far this year.  The Tigers are led by Kylie Aquaro who leads the team in assists with seven and points with nine.  Jaidan Fahrny leads the team in goals with five and is second on the team in points with eight.  Emma Pickering leads the team in blocked shots with 26.  Sarah Coe is 2-4-2 with a .923 save percentage, 2.58 goals allowed average and 253 saves.
