Lakers Breeze By Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, NY- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team traveled to Rochester, NY this afternoon to take on the Red Hawks of Roberts Wesleyan. After a blowout win against Lake Erie College earlier in the week, the Lakers made it two in a row, outscoring the Red Hawks 72-57. Mercyhurst is now 2-2 on the year.  

How it Happened: 

The Lakers grabbed an early lead, outscoring Roberts 18-14 in the first quarter. Despite 10 turnovers in the first half, the Lakers grew their lead to as many as 10 in the first half.  

Shooting over 40% from the field in the half, the Lakers were able to use a balanced attack to keep the Red Hawks in check, out shooting and out rebounding Roberts Wesleyan. Julia Buchman and Bailey Kuhns led the Lakers offensively in the first half, as both recorded 10 points each. Danielle Grim grabbed 6 rebounds in the first half as well.  

The Lakers flipped a switch in the second half, growing their lead to 13 in the 3rd. The two teams went back and forth to end the 3rd, which brought the Laker lead down to 10 heading in the 4th quarter, 52-42. The Lakers took much better care of the ball in the 3rd and continued to shoot it to the tune of 42.0% 

Mercyhurst didn't leave a doubt in the 4th quarter, as they grew their lead to reach a final score of 72-57. 

Highlights:  

Coming into the game averaging 15 points and 5 rebounds a game, Bailey Kuhns continued her hot start to the season. Kuhns stuffed the stat sheet once again posting a game high 21 points while tallying 6 rebounds. 

Julia Buchman put together a strong performance for the Lakers as well. The grad student from Orefield, PA contributed 14 points to go along with 5 assists.  

Paige Woodford was also very active for the Lakers, crashing the offensive boards and supplying a lot of energy for the squad. Woodford finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. 

Danielle Grim turned it on to conclude the game bringing her point total to 15 on the day. Grim also secured a double double today with 10 rebounds.  

 Next Game:  

Mercyhurst is back in action on Wednesday, November 22nd as they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio Dominican. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
