Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Volleyball team concluded their season with a Senior Day matchup against crosstown rival Gannon. It was a battle all the way through the match, but Gannon came away with a 3-0 win over the Lakers.
How it Happened
Alyssa Krause came out a ripped a service ace to get the scoring started for the Lakers. A kill by Kate Hennessy brought the score to 7-6 in favor of Gannon. Gannon went on a short 5-1 run to extend their lead to 12-7. A bad set by Gannon and another service ace by Alyssa Krause allowed the Lakers to draw closer. Gannon extended their lead, but the Lakers didn't go away. The Lakers climbed back in the game with a kill from Kate Hennessy, a kill from Maggie Thomas, and a service ace from Andrea Zaric. The comeback effort wasn't enough as Gannon took set on 25-22.
Andrea Zaric notched a kill to get the scoring started for the Lakers. After some back and forth, Gannon scored four straight points to extend their lead to 11-5. A short 5-1 run extended that lead to 15-7. A kill by Corinne Bechtold ended the run by Gannon. The Lakers tried to climb back in the set with a kill and a service ace by Andrea Zaric, but Gannon closed out set two 25-15 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Lakers got out to an early 6-3 lead in set three. The Lakers extended their lead to 11-9 towards the middle of set three. Gannon went on a 7-0 run to take the lead back. After Madalynn Ward used some finesse to notch a kill and cut into the Gannon lead. Gannon ended set three on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

The seniors honored today were #1 Alexa Mitchell, #7 Maggie Thomas, #16 Corinne Bechtold, #22 Madalynn Ward, and #24 Kate Hennessy.
Kate Hennessy led the Lakers in kills with 11 kills, digs with nine, and added a block.
Andrea Zaric finished with three service aces.
Alexa Mitchell dished out 14 assists.
The Lakers concluded their season with a 4-20 record overall and a 2-14 record in the PSAC. Kate Hennessy finished the season with 247 kills, which led the Lakers. Alexa Mitchell dished out 544 assists. Paige Miller finished with a team high 246 digs, and Kaitlin Murphy finished with 50 blocks.
