Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst football moves into the final week of the season now with the team set to compete against Shepherd. The Lakers make the trip to Shepherdstown, WV to see their counterpart on Saturday, November 11th, in a 12:00 p.m. start.
A Look Back
Mercyhurst dropped their final home game of the season and now sit with a record of 2-8 while going 1-6 in PSAC play, coming in tied for sixth in the conference. The Lakers were able to defeat Lock Haven in their home opener on September 9th by a final of 42-29 in a historic effort from Adam Urena and grabbed their second win against Clarion in a tough-fought 36-35 win.
Laker Leaders
Adam Urena led the way through the air for the Lakers with him passing for 2,361 yards while securing 21 touchdowns to have one of the better seasons by a quarterback for Mercyhurst over the past decade. His favorite target ended up being Joe Kerbacher who led the team in receptions with 38 catches for a team-leading 537 yards and four TDs. On the ground, it was Jaylen Butera who did the most of the heavy lifting with 632 yards for six touchdowns. Tyler Buterbaugh has been the team's top tackler with 71 total takedowns while having 3.5 tackles for a loss and a pair of sacks.
ReboundingÂ
The Lakers suffered a shutout against Seton Hill this past weekend in their regular season finale, falling 14-0. The last time Mercyhurst found themselves shut out was in the 2022 season when they did so against the Griffins in a 7-0 final. In the game following that, they scored only 13 points against Bloomsburg in the final game of the year. They hope to find their offensive rhythm once again and rebound from the goose egg.
Scouting Shepherd
Shepherd is 8-2 to this point in the season, going 5-2 in PSAC play to take the second seen in the East. They have been very good at home as well, going 4-1 inside their friendly confines with only Kutztown beating them, 20-7. Malakai Brown has been the catalyst on offense as he had 916 yards on the ground for an average e91.6 yards per game to go along with six scores.
