Football Set for Homecoming Battle with the Rock

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst football comes into the month of October 1-4 on the year after a 40-24 defeat at the hands of Edinboro in week five, dropping each of their last three games. The Lakers look to turn this around on Saturday, September 7th, when they take on Slippery Rock at home.

Where They Stand

Mercyhurst finds themselves 1-4 (0-2) to this point in the season to tie for last place in the PSAC West alongside Clarion and Seton Hill. Slippery Rock is on the other end of the standings as they currently are first with a 5-0 record to this point in the year with a 2-0 mark in conference play. Cal (Pa.) and Gannon both of 2-0 in the PSAC as well while Edinboro and IUP round out the group in middle at 1-1.

Historic Hurler

Adam Urena has been a major weapon on offense for the Lakers through the midway point of the season as he has 1,374 yards through the air while adding 12 touchdowns to his line. The native of Chino Hills, Ca. 274.8 passing yards per game which is good enough for second in the conference with his dozen scores being second as well. He has already surpassed the team's leader in passing yards from a season ago just five games in and is on pace to three from 3,023 yards on the season which would be the most ever in a single season by a Laker QB.

Laker Leaders

 To go alongside Arena great performance, there have been some solid efforts from his teammates through the midway point of the season. Rylan Davison leads the team in catches (24) and receiving yards (270) while adding four touchdown to his line to be tied for the team lead. Cameron Barmore is the other receiver with four TDs while having 20 receptions and 237 yards to his ledger, both good for second among the Lakers. On defense, Christian Taylar has piled up 37 total tackles for the team lead with Anthony Mackey's 29 good enough for second while Tyler Buterbaugh and Zack Helsley have 28 apiece to round out the top three. Camden White leads the team in tackles for a loss with 3.5 with his 2.5 sacks also being tops on the team.

Scouting Slippery Rock

The Rock are 5-0 to this point in the season after defeating IUP 42-21 in their last matchup. The offense has been humming for Slippery Rock with them scoring 20 or more points in every game and 30 or more in four of the five games. Khalid Dorsey has been strong out of the backfield with 369 yards to his line to go along with four rushing scores. He is joined by Isaiah Edwards who has 194 yards with six touchdowns to his line to come in second in the conference. Through the air, Kyle Sheets has been the top target with 28 catches, 549 yards, and six touchdowns to lead the PSAC.

Next Game

After one game inside their friendly confines, Mercyhurst goes back out on the road for their second game of October. The Lakers head to Clarion, Pa. to take on the Golden Eagles next on Saturday, September 14th, with kickoff se for 12:00 p.m.
