Box Score Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team hosted a mid-season nonconference match against Daemen. The Lakers got out to an early lead and never looked back, as an early goal was all that was needed in a 4-0 win.
How it Happened
It didn't take long for the Lakers to get on the board. In just the ninth minute, Frank Lovett found Dylan Sumner in front of the goal and Sumner was able to beat the goaltender to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. The Lakers had numerous opportunities to extend their lead but couldn't convert. The Lakers were able to convert an opportunity as Jorge Tallada Torres found Carlos Cueva cutting towards the net and Cueva was able to beat the goaltender to extend the Laker lead to 2-0. At halftime the Lakers led Daemen 2-0.
Three minutes into the second half the Lakers were awarded a penalty kick. Dylan Sumner went top right and beat the goalie for his second goal of the game. The Lakers went up 3-0. After some trouble with the ball in front of the net, Andreas Rossak was able to swipe the ball away from the goalie and put it into the back of the net to give the Lakers a 4-0 lead. The Lakers had a few more opportunities to add on but couldn't break through. The final seconds ticked off the clock and the Lakers would take the 4-0 win over Daemen and improve to 8-1.
Highlights
Dylan Sumner scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season. Frank Lovett added an assist in the first, and the second was by way of a penalty kick.
Carlos Cueva scored his first goal of the season from Jorge Tallada Torres.
Andreas Rossak scored his fifth goal of the season.
