Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst field hockey plays two games on the new week as they are set to begin the October portion of their schedule. They kick things off at home on Wednesday, October 4th, when they host IUP at 2:00 p.m. followed by a road trip on Saturday to Millersville for a noon start.
Where They Stand
Mercyhurst is 2-7 to this point in the season with an 0-3 record in conference play, sitting in 10th in the conference currently where they are joined by Slippery Rock who has an identical record. East Stroudsburg currently sits atop with Shippensburg with both teams at 2-0 in the conference while West Chester is 3-0. Kutztown and IUP follow at 2-1 while Mansfield, Bloomsburg, and Millersville all have one win in PSAC play.
Laker Leaders
Jenna Cavalieri currently leads the team in points with 15 with a team-best six goals to her line while adding in a trio of assists. Ellie Schau follows with 12 points, scoring five times to go along with two assists. In the cage, Kayla Desormeau now has 78 saves to her 28 goals which is good enough for a 73.6% save percentage. The native of Waterloo, Ont. now has double-digit saves in five games on the year with three of those performances coming in a row.Â
Scouting IUP
The Crimson Hawks are 5-3 to this point in the season and 2-1 in the PSAC after falling to Kutztown this past Saturday, 5-0. Before that, IUP had managed to earn 2-1 wins over both Millersville and Slippery Rock with their win over the Marauders being an overtime victory. Jess Davidson has carried the load on offense for IUP to this point in the season as she has eight of the team's 11 goals, giving her 16 points on the year. The native of new Zealand has been bit quite of late as she has not scored in his last two games and the Lakers look to make it a third.
Scouting the Marauders
 Millersville is 6-3 to this point in the year with only one win in conference play with that coming against Slippery Rock in their last try, defeating the Rock 2-0. Before that, the Marauders defeated Mercy 5-0 so they rounded out September on a high note and look to keep that rolling into October. Qhayiya Nogoduka has been the team's leading scorer with seven to her line for the year. The team's ability to facilitate has been very spread out with three different players having multiple assists to their line, making Millersville a team that can attack from multiple angles.
Next Game
Mercyhurst will see Frostburg State next on Tuesday, October 10th, with the Bobcats coming to town for a 2:00 p.m. start. They are followed by Bloomsburg with Mercyhurst making the trip east to see the Huskies on the 14th in a noon start.
