Box Score The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team traveled to Slippery Rock, PA this afternoon to take on the third ranked team in the PSAC West. After winning the first match up, The Lakers fell short of the Rock by a score of 2-1. Mercyhurst now has a record of 12-2 on the year and gets set for a big Saturday night match against Gannon University.
How it Happened:
Scoring wasn't easy to come by today, as both defenses successfully implemented their game plan. With less than ten minutes until halftime, the Lakers finally found the back of the net. Off a free kick, Anamari Bosnjak struck a beautiful ball that found Corinne Morgan for the conversion. The 1-0 lead remained until the halftime whistle.
In the first half, each team recorded two shots on goal.
Slippery Rock tied the game off a corner kick early in the second half to make it 1-1. Later in the half, A yellow card was warranted to a Laker defender, which resulted in a converted penalty kick by Ashley Rea to give Slippery Rock a 2-1 lead. Despite great effort late in the match to tie the game, Slippery Rock escaped with a 2-1 advantage.
Slippery Rock recorded 15 shots compared to Mercyhurst's 7. The loss ends a 12-game winning streak for the Lakers.
Highlights:
Corinne Morgan added her sixth goal of the season off a beautiful pass from Anamari Bosnjak. Bosnjak now has six assists on the season. The two Freshman continue to piece together excellent rookie seasons.
The Lakers defense sees their seven-game shutout streak come to an end. Maddie Elbro tallied four saves on the day.

The Lakers now enter a rivalry matchup with Gannon University. The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 21st at 7:30 PM. In what was an intense and physical match the first time around, the Lakers will look to sweep the Golden Knights this weekend.
