The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team is a force to be reckoned with as they have now extended their winning streak to ten. The Lakers now look to add two more to the win column as they prepare for Seton Hill on Wednesday, October 11th, and IUP on Saturday, October 14th.
The team's current record of 10-1 is good enough to put them twentieth in the country. While also being ranked third regionally, Mercyhurst now enters the portion of their season where every point is crucial.
In their first meeting with the Griffins, the Lakers won 2-0. Seton Hill currently holds a 3-6-1 record, most recently beating Edinboro, but falling short of Slippery Rock. To duplicate the result of their first meeting, the stout Laker defense will have to target Jessica Molitoris of Seton Hill. A returning All PSAC West selection from a year ago, Molitoris leads the team in goals scored and is the pulse of the Griffin offense.
Rich Wall's bunch will have to be equally as sharp while hosting IUP. IUP posts a 4-4-2 record and is fresh off a win against D'youville College. Hannah Scardina has been red hot for IUP, totaling seven goals so far this season. Like the Laker defense has done so many times before, they will have to clamp down on the Crimson Hawk's solid offensive attack.
Offensively, the Lakers are so deep that production can come from many different players. Currently, Karah Van Horn and Corinne Morgan lead the charge with 17 and 16 points on the year, respectively. Defensively, Maddie Elbro and Taryn Baxter lead the defensive front that has strung together nine shutouts so far this season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM on both Wednesday and Saturday. On Saturday, the team will celebrate their Seniors.
