Women’s Basketball Prepare for Trio of Games

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Women's Basketball comes off a week where they split a pair of games and now stand at 11-7 on the season. They play three games on the new week with the first two on the road while they round things out on Owen McCormick Court, looking for the clean sweep and moving up the standings.

1. Individual Leaders

Overall this season, the team has three players averaging double-digit points, Jayde Boyd leading the way with 11.9 per game, Grace Centrulla following with 10.9, and Julia Buchman with 10. All three are shooting well from deep as they collectively hit 44% of their shots from three. The Lakers have been solid from beyond the arc as they are third in the PSAC in three-point makes (168) and first in percentage (36.9%)

2. Season So Far

The Lakers have a current record of 6-5 in conference and 11-7 overall. They are currently tied for fourth place in the PSAC West alongside Cal (Pa.) whom they disposed of last week and Seton Hill whom they host this weekend. Mercyhurst is currently three games back of the top spot in the West which is held by Gannon at 9-2 in conference. The team has 11 more games on the season with each posing as major matchups as the Lakers look to climb to the top of the standings.

3. Scouting UPJ

Monday, January 23rd, at 5:30 p.m. the Lakers play the University of Pitt-Johnstown on the road. The last time these two teams faced each other, the Lakers won by a score of 65-45 after dominating the first and third quarters. Boyd was a crucial player in that game, dominating the first half and scoring 24 points throughout the game. UPJ now has a conference record of 8-3, tying them with IUP for second in the PSAC West standings.

4. Scouting Clarion

The Lakers face another PSAC opponent on Wednesday, January 25th, at 5:30 p.m. as they stay on the road for that game as they are playing at Clarion (3-13, 3-8). Mercyhurst has gotten the better of the Golden Eagles of late as they have won 11 of the last 13 meetings between the two teams. They saw a five-game win streak snapped last time out against Clarion, so the Lakers are motivated to begin a new streak.

5. Scouting Seton Hill

After returning home after a pair of away games, women's basketball faces Seton Hill back inside their friendly confines. They host the Griffins on Saturday, January 28th, at 1:00 p.m., hoping for a repeat of the last time out as the Lakers won 70-64. Seton Hill is 13-7 on the season and 6-5 in conference play with wins in four of their last five games. They are led by Christiane Frye who averages a team-high 13.7 points per game on 42.7% shooting.
