Erie, Pa – Mercyhurst Women's Basketball doesn't slow down as they defeat Shepherd by a score of 85-65. The Lakers move up to 9-5 overall and 5-3 conference record after their second straight win in conference play.
How It Happened
The Wednesday matchup was very intense right from the beginning as both teams worked hard and played very well defensively. Ava Waid got active early in the first as she scored the first bucket for her team and followed that with another driving layup a couple of minutes later, 10-9.
Jayde Boyd also caught fire in the opening half, as she scored 17 out of her 26 points and showcased her lethal jumper for three. Despite her heroics, the Lakers went into the break winning by just one point, 45-44.
Mercyhurst's squad came out of the locker room determined to extend their lead and they finally succeeded. Grace Centrulla scored a couple of nice buckets and Paige Woodford finished the quarter with a spectacular buzzer-beater, to put the Lakers ahead with a 14-point lead, 65-51.
The Rams tried to get back in the game in the fourth quarter, but Jayde Boyd kept scoring the ball. Nicolette Arnold recorded a nice and-one play to put the Lakers up by 21 points while Mercyhurst held on to their lead and won their fifth PSAC game of the season.

Jayde Boyd led the charge with a season-high 26 points while adding four rebounds and three assists. Boyd shot 9-16 from the floor and 5-9 from deep; the senior guard has found her rhythm of late, shooting 17-35 from the field and 8-17 from three in her last two games. She was helped by Paige Woodford and Grace Centrulla with 11 points each. Lexi Wagner added ten in just 16 minutes of playing time. Mercyhurst dominated the second half thanks to their defense, as they forced their opponents to take contested shots. The Lakers out-rebounded the Rams 38-22 and showcased team-oriented basketball with 24 assists in the game.
