Box Score Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team faced No. 6 Colgate on home ice to kickoff homecoming weekend. The Lakers dropped their fist game of the season 5-0.
How it Happened
The Raiders jumped out to an early lead as they scored at the 3:19 mark of the first period. Colgate doubled their lead just over three minutes later as they scored on the power play. After the opening 20 minutes the Lakers outshot 13-5.
Neither team scored in the second period, but each team had scored opportunities but both goalies stood tall. Ena Nystrøm made 11 saves in the second period after making 11 in the first period. After two periods the Lakers were being outshot 24-9.
In the third period the Lakers tried to battle back into the game but were unsuccessful. Colgate scored their third goal of the game and second power play goal at the 5:03 mark of the third period. Just six minutes later with just under nine minutes remaining Colgate made their lead four. The Raiders weren't done as they scored with 50 seconds remaining to make it 5-0.
By the Numbers
Nystrøm kept the Lakers in the game as she turned away 32 shots which is a season high. Marielle Parks and Sydney Pedersen led the Lakers with three shots a piece. Mercyhurst could not convert on any of their five power plays while Colgate scored twice on six attempts.
