Men's Soccer Defeats Seton Hill After Late Goal

Erie, Pa – No. 9 Mercyhurst Men's Soccer defeated Seton Hill by a score of 1-0 after an intense match in the rain.

How It Happened
The game started with a lot of back-and-forth action. Both teams played physically, and players would often find themselves laying on the ground. Seton Hill had a chance to score in 15th minute of the game, but Lakers' defense led by Jonathan Gomes guarded the goal well.

Mercyhurst kept applying pressure and tried to create good scoring opportunities, but the Griffins kept their cool and didn't make any costly mistakes. In 26th minute of the game a shot taken by Sean Kerrigan was blocked. A couple minutes later Tom Barry's shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Despite a lot of effort, the two teams were tied at halftime..

The second half of the match was once again dominated by Mercyhurst. Despite harsh weather conditions the Lakers kept pushing, fighting for every inch of the field. They drew six corners in the second half alone, and many of them turned into good scoring opportunities. In the 64th minute of the match Kerrigan took a spectacular shot, but it bounced off the goalpost.

The Lakers finally broke through in 86th minute when Martin Grzywa beat his defender with a move to the right and passed inside. The ball was received by Dylan Sumner who scored it with a strong kick to the right. Mercyhurst players erupted with happiness and joined by the bench huddled up together to celebrate the goal.

Seton Hill tried to tie the game, but couldn't get through the defense, so the match ended with a score of 1-0.
