Women’s Basketball Introduces 2022-23 Class

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst's Women's Basketball Head Coach Brooklyn Kohlheim announces the incoming class for the 2022-23 season. The influx of new faces includes five student-athletes overall with a trio of freshmen and two transfers.

Sophie Kelly / Guard / Allison Park, PA / Freshman
Kelly joins the Lakers as a true freshman who looks to add to Mercyhurst's veteran laden backcourt. Sophie played multiple seasons in both high school and AAU with her senior campaign being one that saw her average over 10 points per game while also being able to nab over two steals per game.

Dani Grim / Guard / Columbus, OH / Sophomore
Grim is one of the two transfers that Head Coach Kohlheim was able to add to the fold for the new season. Dani spent her first collegiate season at Long Island University, earning NEC All-Rookie honors while makes the NEC Academic Honor Roll and scoring a season-high 15 points against Army.

Jenna Van Shaik / Guard / Cincinnati, OH / Freshman
Van Shaik joins Kelly as one of the new faces in the backcourt for the Lakers as a true freshman. The native of the Queen City helped lead Ohio powerhouse Ursuline Academy during her final campaign, averaging 15.7 points per game and doing so from all three levels.

Lexi Wagner / Guard / Galesville, WI / Graduate Transfer
Wagner is the second of the two transfers the Lakers add to their roster for the 2022-23 season. The graduate transfer was a First Team All-Wisconsin honoree in her senior season at G-E-T before joining Youngstown State. Lexi recorded a career-high 10 points against Purdue Wort Wayne during the 2020-21 season.

Bailey Kuhns / Forward / Mount Pleasant, PA / Freshman
Kuhns will serve as a big presence for the Lakers in the paint as one of the three listed forwards on the roster. The incoming freshman's listed height is the second-tallest on the team, checking in at 5'11", with coach Kohlheim looking to use all of that height along the interior on both sides of the ball.

Hear from Coach
"We are not only excited about the incoming class, but equally happy to have the returners who have committed to another year of Lakers basketball," said Head Coach Brooklyn Kohlheim. "The new student-athletes are going to mesh well with the returners and fit right into the values we have spent the time laying the groundwork for."
