Erie, Pa.—Mercyhurst Assistant Vice President for Athletics Bradley Davis has announced that Women's Soccer Head Coach Jon Arlet has signed a contract extension. Arlet has led the Lakers to 43 wins in his first four full seasons not including the COVID shortened spring 2021 season. In 2021, the Lakers made their first NCAA appearance since 2008 while also winning the PSAC West regular season.
Arlet has also announced changes to the coaching staff ahead of the 2022 season. Now entering his fifth season Arlet has added Lucas Fievet as an assistant coach and Head Coach of the reserve team, Tamara Queiroz as a graduate assistant, and Gabi Catrabone '14 as a volunteer assistant coach.
"I'm quite excited to welcome Lucas, Tamara and Gabi into our women's soccer family in their new roles at a very exciting time in our program entering this fall" Arlet said.
Fievet joins the Laker staff after being a graduate assistant at Wheeling University for the men's program. He helped lead the Cardinals to six wins over the last two seasons despite playing a reduced schedule in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19. Prior to his coaching days, the Pittsburgh native played four seasons at Wheeling. He played in 59 games in his career and had a breakout season his senior season by scoring four times and adding two assists from the midfield.
When asked about Fievet, Arlet spoke highly of the new appointed assistant coach, "This is certainly the next step for Lucas as a collegiate coach and I look forward to working together on what's next for MU women's soccer and the big aspirations we have. Lucas comes to us highly recommended out of Wheeling, where he both played and worked under Head Coach Jim Regan, a primary mentor for me over the years."
Queiroz has been around soccer her whole life and played four seasons of college soccer. She started her collegiate career at Asa College and was a NJCCA All-American and a National Championship runner-up. She moved on to Salem in 2018 where she dominated her first season. In 15 games she netted 18 goals while adding eight assists. She was an All-Region honoree while finishing sixth in the country in goals per game and points per game.
"Tamara has an extensive playing background both internationally and domestically that we feel brings value to everyone involved. Tamara most recently spent time in Italy studying soccer methodology and has aspirations of working at the collegiate level for years to come, something very important to us when we began the search for our next graduate assistant coach" Arlet added.
Catrabone returns home to Mercyhurst after graduating from Mercyhurst in 2014. In four seasons with the Lakers she played 65 games. The Erie native went to McDowell high school before joining the Lakers. In her collegiate career she scored eight goals while adding six assists, in her senior season both her goals were game winning goals.
Arlet is excited to add a Mercyhurst alum to the staff "It's great to have another local to Erie join us on staff as a volunteer coach. Not only that, but Gabi is an alumni of Mercyhurst and the women's soccer program. Gabi brings a whole new dynamic and I know her experience as both a women's soccer player at MU and her experiences will make her quite valuable to our student-athletes this year."
Sombath "Bot" Inthavong will also be on the staff as a vounteer assistant coach for the second straight season.
The Lakers open the season against Bloomsburg on Aug. 25 on the road before hosting Edinboro on Aug. 31st in both their PSAC West opener and home opener.
