Softball Earns First NCAA Bid In Program History

Indianapolis, IN—For the first time in program history the Mercyhurst Softball team has earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

After winning 32 games this season, the Lakers advanced to their first ever PSAC Championship. Mercyhurst started their PSAC run against Shippensburg who was ranked ahead of the Lakers in the last poll. After beating the Raiders the Lakers faced Shepherd and defeated the Rams. In the third game of the tournament the final two unbeaten teams in Mercyhurst and Kutztown. The Lakers hung tough with the top seeded Kutztown but fell. Mercyhurst fell into the losers bracket where they defeated Bloomsburg to advance to the PSAC Championship against Kutztown. After taking an early lead against the Golden Bears, the Laker finished in second in the PSAC Championship.

Five PSAC teams have earned bids to the NCAA Tournament, Kutztown is the top seed in the region, Seton Hill is the second seed, Bloomsburg is the third seed, Mercyhurst the fourth seed, and Slippensburg is the sixth seed.

The Lakers play the fifth seed in the region who is West Virginia Wesleyan, the Lakers played the Bobcats on March 7th at the Spring Games, the Lakers fell 1-0 as Morgan Hilty threw a complete game allowing seven hits and just one run.
