Box Score 2 Quakertown, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Softball team saw their historic PSAC Tournament run come to an end in the PSAC Championship. After earning a trip to the final against Bloomsburg the Lakers fell to Kutztown in the final.
Against Bloomsburg (W, 4-2)
The Lakers opened the game by getting out a jam in the opening inning.
Eliza Reynolds led off for the Lakers and continued her terror of late with a solo homer to left field to open the scoring.
Neither team scored again until the third inning. Bloom had two runners on and drove them both in on a single to take a 2-1 lead.
Mercyhurst didn't respond until the fifth inning as Kacie Irwin singled to open the frame. Chloe McQuestion bunted her over to second. Reynolds then singled to put runners on the corners. Brianne Egelston then singled to center to drive in Irwin and tie the game at two. After Reynolds was called out on interference on Cheyenne Hindman single runners were on the corners for Allison Dejidas. Dejidas doubled to left center and both runners came home to make it 4-2 Lakers.
Bloomsburg got their third run in the seventh on a fielding error.
Morgan Hilty scattered nine hits over 6.2 innings while striking out two. She notched nine flyouts and eight groundouts. Kaitlin Hoffner earned the save coming in for the final out.
Mercyhurst moved on to face Kutztown in the PSAC Championship.
Against Kutztown (L, 7-4)
In the top of the second inning the Lakers opened the scoring. Sarah Koscho singled to open the inning and stole second. With one out in the frame Irwin reached on an error that put runners on the corners. After a groundout, McQuestion doubled to left and drove in both runs with two outs.
In the fifth following a leadoff single by Reynolds, Egelston hit her first career homer to give the Lakers a 4-0 lead.
Kutztown scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. In the sixth, the Golden Bears scored three more times to take the lead.
Mikaela Schramski started against Kutztown and went 4.2 innings allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out four. Hoffner took the circle for two thirds of an inning while striking out one and allowing two hits. Hilty went the final two thirds and got two gorundouts.
Historic Season
Mercyhurst has won 32 games this season which is the most in program history. They also won three games at the PSAC Tournament and earned their first appearance in the PSAC finals. The three wins at PSACs is the most in program history.
