Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Seton Hill in the GMAC Championship

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse Team fell in the GMAC Championship Game on Saturday afternoon to Seton Hill by a 14-10 score. The Lakers will now find out tomorrow if they will earn a spot in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament.

Seton Hill started the contest with three unanswered tallies in the opening five minutes of the game. Jacob Emerson got the Lakers on the board at the 8:06 mark off a pass from Ethan Landymore, however the Griffins added two more scores to close out the first quarter on top 5-1.

In the second quarter, the Lakers came out with the first score courtesy of Bryce Johnson before Seton Hill extended their lead to five after back-to-back scores from Layne Harich. The Lakers would round out the half on a 3-0 scoring run, with Myles Hamm scoring twice and Johnson adding the other to cut the Griffin lead down to two entering the halftime break.

Both teams came out firing in the third quarter as nine shots, four from Mercyhurst and five from Seton Hill found the back of the net. The Griffins opened up the quarter with scores from McGarity Harper and David St. Clair in the first five minutes to take a 9-5 lead. Shawn Doran proceeded to take the ensuing faceoff the length of the field and fired in a Laker goal which sparked another 3-0 scoring run for the green and white. Ethan Landymore and Johnson followed with tallies to cut the Griffin lead to 9-8.

Zach Estabrooks and St. Clair then proceeded to score three more times for the Griffins before Hamm closed out scoring in the quarter with a tally at the 3:25 mark as the Lakers trailed by three entering the final 15 minutes of action.

In the fourth quarter, Harper added his second and third goals of the games for the Griffins as they were too much for the Lakers to handle. Mercyhurst did tack on a late goal from Landymore, however the Griffins were the ones raising the GMAC Championship Trophy after the final buzzer sounded. The Lakers did manage to outshoot the Griffins 28-25. Brett Olney made 11 saves in net for the Lakers while the Griffins Kevin Mo registered 18.
