Box Score 2 Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Softball team played as the away team at the Mercyhurst Softball field on Friday and fell to IUP in both games of the doubleheader.
Game One (L, 6-5)
In the first game of the day the Laker jumped out to an early lead as Cheynne Hindman drive in Madison Fry who started the game with a single.
The Lakers extended their lead in the second inning as Kaci Alderson hit a moonshot through the cold Erie air to make it 2-0 Mercyhurst.
IUP was held off the score board until the bottom of the third in which they played small ball and were aggressive on the base paths to score twice and tie the game up.
In the fourth the Lakers responded as Anna O'Geen singled to start the frame, she was bunted over to second by Chloe McQuestion. After a flyout, Brianne Egelston singled right back up the middle to scored O'Geen and give the Lakers the lead.
One inning later the Lakers extended their lead on an Alderson single that brought home Cheyenne Hindman who started the inning with a single.
IUP scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-4. Following a weather delay in the top of the seventh, the Lakers scored once on a Sarah Koscho single but could not complete the comeback.
Mikaela Schramski started in the circle and went 5.1 innings, Kaitlin Hoffner came in relief in the six and got the final two outs.
Game Two (L, 4-3)
IUP jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a single and then scored again the bottom of the second to make it 2-0 after two. IUP added a run in third as well to make it 3-0.
In the top of the fourth the Lakers showed some life. Hoffner singled to scored Hidman. O'Geen followed it up with a single of her own as Alderson scored with the bases loaded. Despite having the bases loaded with one out the Lakers could not convert anymore.
The Crimson Hawks answered back in the bottom half doubling their lead and making it 4-2.
Fry started the fifth with a singled and moved to second on a groundout. Allison Dejidas doubled allowing Fry to come home for the third Laker run.
Morgan Hilty went 4.1 innings allowing four runs (one unearned), Hoffner came in for relief and went 1.2 innings allowing non baserunners.

The Lakers are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to UPJ, the two teams were supposed to play on Saturday but due to the weather the doubleheader has been moved.
