Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Softball team earned a pair of non-conference wins over the Edinboro Fighting Scots under the lights of the Mercyhurst Softball Field on Wednesday night.
Game One (W, 5-4)
The Fighting Scots struck early as they put up their only four runs of the game in the first inning.
Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lakers started their comeback. With the bases loaded with one out Hannah Rozanski reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Allison Dejidas to score. Two pitches later Chloe McQuestion reached on an error that allowed Kaitlin Hoffner and Jessica Clark to both score to make it a one run game.
In the bottom of the sixth Eliza Reynolds tied the game with a double that brought McQuestion home.
Mercyhurst had a chance to win it in the bottom half of the seventh but couldn't convert on a two out double.
In the bottom of the eighth after Edinboro failed to score, Rozanski drew a leadoff walk. McQuestion and Kacie Irwin followed it up with bunt singles. With the bases load Reynolds flew out to left but it was just deep enough for Anna O'Geen to score from third to win the game.
Mikaela Schramski went 7+ innings allowing four runs on eight hits, she struckout seven in the outing. Hoffner came in for the eighth and earned the win as she generated three groundouts.
Game Two (W, 8-2)
Unlike game one, the Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Marisa Cartellone doubled which drove in Cheyenne Hindman for the first run of the game. Sarah Koscho then doubled to score Cartellone from second to make it 2-0.
Edinboro got on the board in third inning on a fielder's choice to cut the Laker lead in half.
In the bottom half of the inning Koscho looked to have an easy single up the middle but the shortstop made a diving play to keep it in the infield. Koscho reached first safely on a close play but Dejidas was running hard all the way and scored from second on the play whole Hindman scored easily from third. It was 4-1 Lakers have three full innings.
Mercyhurst added to their lead in the fourth inning as Rozanski blasted a homer to left field, it was her second homer of the season.
In the fifth the Lakers put the game out of reach as Dejidas hit a two run homer to make it 7-1. One batter later Koscho got in on the fun and hit her fourth homer of the season to make it 8-1.
The Fighting Scots got one back in the sixth but it wasn't enough for a comeback.
Morgan Hilty earned her tenth win of the season in the circle as she allowed two runs on seven hits. She struckout just two but got 12 outs via the groundball.
