Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Softball team picked up two vital PSAC West wins on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Softball Field over Slippery Rock.
Game One (W, 3-2)
The Lakers started the day with a two run bottom of the first. Eliza Reynolds singled with one out to get the first runner on. Cheyenne Hindman followed it up with a one out single of her own to put two runners on. Allison Dejidas walked to load the bases, after a strikeout Sarah Koscho came to the plate. She hit a grounder to the shortshop, she couldn't handle the grounder and allowed two runs to score on the play.
After a scoreless top half of the second inning, the Lakers struck one more time in the bottom of the second. Hannah Rozanski and Brianne Egelston drew walks to bring Reynolds to the plate with two runners on with one out. Reynolds doubled to right center that brought Rozanski home to make it 3-0.
Slippery Rock scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings but could not complete the comeback in the seventh inning.
Mikaela Schramski won her 11th game of the season with her 12th complete game. She allowed just two runs (one earned) while walking just one, she struckout a season high nine in the win.
Game Two (W, 7-2)
After their comeback came up short in the first game, The Rock jumped out a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a SAC Fly to right.
The Lakers responded in the bottom half of the first. Dejidas doubled to right center with the bases load, Egelston and Reynolds scored on the play to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead. Koscho was the next batter and groundout but drove in Hindman to make it 3-1.
In the bottom of the third inning the Lakers offense had another multi run inning. Dejidas drew a one out walk while Marisa Cartellone drew a two out walk to put two runners on. Kacie Irwin then walked to load the bases. Rozanski stepped to the plate and ripped a 0-1 pitch to left center for a double. Dejidas and Cartellone scored on the play to make it 5-1.
The fourth inning was the inning of the long ball for the Lakers. Reynolds hit her first career homer with one out in the frame to make it 6-1. One batter later Dejidas blasted one to center field to extend the lead to six.
Slippery Rock scored their second run of the game in the sixth inning as they singled up the middle to drive a run in.
Morgan Hilty went the full game in the circle, she scattered three hits over seven innings while allowing just the two runs (one earned). She struckout nine while getting eight groundouts and eight flyouts.

The Lakers have four regular season games remaining this season, all at home. Gannon comes to the Mercyhurst Softball Field on Friday before the Lakers host Clarion on Saturday in the regular season finale. Mercyhurst sits in fifth place of the PSAC West standings.
