Women’s Lacrosse Drops a 9-8 Thriller to Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse team fell to Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg, Pa. The Lakers came back from a four goal deficit in the second half, however the Griffins scored the game-winning goal on a free position shot with 27 seconds left in the contest.

The Lakers opened up scoring in the contest with the first two tallies of the game courtesy of Victoria Gottorff and Molly Meegan. Seton Hill would not find the back of the net until the 9:55 mark of the opening period when Sklyar Orlowski scored. The Griffins followed with two additional scores to close out the quarter up 3-2.

Much like the first quarter, the Lakers produced two goals early in the second quarter from Gottorff and Meghan Nasman before the Griffins scored the final four tallies of the quarter to take an 8-4 lead going into the halftime break.

After the halftime break, the Lakers would begin to mount their comeback as two quick goals from Gottorff cut the Laker deficit to two three minutes into the third quarter. Mercyhurst's Amanda Bailey scored the only other goal in the quarter to put the score at 8-7 Seton Hill entering the final 15 minutes of action.

Bailey produced the game tying goal for the Lakers to begin scoring in the fourth quarter at the 8:57 mark. As the clock ticked down, it seemed as the two teams were headed to an overtime period, however the Griffins would go on to connect on a free position shot with less than half a minute remaining in the game which proved to be the deciding factor.

The Lakers finished the game outshooting the Griffins 19-16. They caused 14 turnovers including 11 in the second half. Kaitlyn Lippert finished the game with seven saves in net for Mercyhurst.

The Lakers will return to action this Monday when they will host Edinboro at 4:00 p.m.
