Softball Storms Over Lake Erie

Painesville, OH –The Mercyhurst University Softball team swept the Lake Erie Storm in a double-header on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakers snuck out a 2-0 win in the first game with only six hits. In the second game, the Laker bats heated up to win 9-1. 
 
Game One (W, 2-0)
 
Morgan Hilty shutout the Storm for her fifth win and third complete game of the season. She limited Storm opportunities allowing no walks and recording 9 fly outs and 9 ground outs. 
 
The Lakers struggled to get their offense going but managed to score two runs. They opened the scoring in the third when Madison Fry put the ball in play which allowed Anna O'Geen to score on an error after she singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. 
 
The insurance run came for the Lakers in the seventh when O'Geen reached on an error which allowed Sarah Koscho to score. 
 
 
Game Two (W, 9-1)
 
The Lakers offense came to life in the second game with nine runners crossing home on 15 hits. 
 
Mikaela Schramski hurled a complete game for the seventh time this season. She allowed only one run with six strikeouts and 11 fly outs.
 
Marissa Cartellone went three for three with three RBI. Fry scored on a sacrifice fly by Cartellone in the first after reaching on an error and stealing second. 
 
The Lakers tacked on one more in the second. O'Geen doubled and advanced to third on Fry's single. She came home on a Storm error after Brianne Egelston put the ball in play. 
 
In the third, the Lakers added two more runs. Cartellone scored on an error and Cheyenne Hindman scored on a wild pitch. 
 
The Lakers kept adding on in the fourth when Allison Dejidas doubled and came home on a Cartellone single. Egelston singled and stole second to eventually come home on Cartellone's third RBI of the game in the sixth. 
 
The Storm scored their only run of the game in the sixth, but the Lakers answered with three in the next half inning. 
 
Up next
The Lakers head across town to take on the Gannon Golden Knights this Thursday at 4 and 6 p.m.
