Greensburg Pa. – The Mercyhurst University Softball team enjoyed a sunny afternoon to pick up two more wins against Malone and Seton Hill.
Against Malone (W, 7-0)
Mikaela Schramski shut out the Pioneers in a complete game to earn the win, her seventh of the season. On the day, she allowed six hits and three walks, while striking out eight batters.
Madison Fry started the offense off in the first inning, thanks to a stolen base, sacrifice bunt, and a wild pitch to put the Lakers ahead 1-0.
The Lakers added two more runs in the second inning, with a
Chloe McQuestion sacrifice fly. Fry drove in Hoffner on an RBI single to make it 3-0. In the third,
Marisa Cartellone made it 4-0 on an RBI single that brought
Sarah Koscho home.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lakers put the game out of reach with another three runs.
Kaci Alderson and
Brianne Egelston each drove in a run and Fry scored on another wild pitch for the final 7-0.
Against Seton Hill (W, 9-6)
In a rematch of the 2021 PSAC Softball Quarterfinals, the Lakers came out victorious over the Griffins. Seton Hill was able to strike in the bottom of the first inning with a two -run home run, giving the Griffins a 2-0 lead. The Lakers responded, scoring nine runs in the next two innings. In the top of the third, the Lakers scoring attack started with a Koscho walk with the bases loaded bringing home
Anna O'Geen. Cartellone then singled bringing in two runs.
Cheyenne Hindman followed her by clearing the bases with a 3-run homer.
It was much of the same in the fourth for the Lakers.
Allison Dejidas doubled bringing home two more runs before Koscho brought her around with an RBI single, making the score 9-2.
In the bottom of the seventh the Griffins tallied four runs, but it was not enough as the Lakers won the game 9-6.
Hindman started on the mound for the Lakers in game two going 1.2 innings. Cartellone came in relief going five innings and earning the win, her first of the season.
Ashlyn Harvey finished the game for the Lakers earning her first career save.
