North Canton, Ohio—The Mercyhurst Men's Tennis team earned the doubles point but could not follow up with enough singles wins as they fell 5-2 at Walsh University Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened
David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic, ranked No. 15 in Division II as a pair, got Mercyhurst started on the right foot as they won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Noha DeSousa Pereira and Ben Davis forced an extra game at No. 2 doubles but fell short of the win, but Kiran Richards and Juan Carlos Hernandez Briones picked up a win at No. 3 doubles to give the Lakers the point.
Akinpetide picked up the lone Mercyhurst singles win at No. 2, taking the match to three sets to decide it. All other matches were decided in straight sets, though Jankovic did force a tiebreaker in the first set at No. 3 singles.
