Clarion, Pa.—The No. 25 Mercyhurst Men's Basketball team rode a dominant first half to victory as they took down Clarion 71-61 on the road Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
Early threes from Steve Cannady and MiyKah McIntosh helped the Lakers out to an early 9-5 lead, but the Lakers used a balanced attack to outscore the Golden Eagles 49-26 in the first half.
Mercyhurst held Clarion to 37.5 percent shooting from the floor, but Clarion took advantage of their free-throws (6-8 made) to put additional points on the board.
The script flipped in the second half, with the Lakers suffering from shooting woes that saw them make just 25 percent of their shots over the final 20 minutes. Still, the damage had been done. Clarion fell despite outscoring the Lakers 35-22 in the second half.
By the Numbers
Clarion's Gerald Jarmon led all scorers with 17 points, followed by Cannady and McIntosh's 15 points and Jeff Planutis' 14. Pipeloluwa Ajayi dominated under the basket, pulling down 12 rebounds split evenly between offensive and defensive.
