Men’s Lacrosse Flies Past No. 17 Lewis, 17-5

ERIE, Pa – The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team hosted their home opener on the turf at Saxon Stadium on Monday afternoon, defeating the visiting Lewis University Flyers by a 17-5 margin. The Lakers improved their 2022 season record to 1-1 with the win in the Top-20 matchup.

In the opening quarter, it was Harvard transfer Myles Hamm who scored the game's first goal less than a minute into the opening period. Mercyhurst's Ethan Landymore would score two additional goals for the Lakers in the first to put them up 3-2 over the Flyers entering the second quarter.

Mercyhurst's  defensive unit led by junior goalkeeper Brett Olney held strong in the second quarter as they kept the Flyers off the scoreboard. Mercyhurst rattled off four goals of their own, including two more by Landymore to extend their lead to 7-2 as the teams headed into the halftime break.

During the third period the Lakers scored the first four goals of the half to make it eight unanswered for the green and white. Two of the four came courtesy of Hamm to put Mercyhurst up 11-2. Luke Ingianni capped off the scoring in the quarter when he put home his second tally of the day.

As the fourth quarter clock wound down Mercyhurst showed no signs of stopping. They outscored the flyers 4-2 getting two more goals from Hamm as they ended with the final 17-5 scoreline.

Bryce Johnson finished the game with a team-high five assists. Landymore led the Lakers with six goals and one assist while Hamm registered five scores. Additionally, the Lakers got goals from Braden McCard, Todd Redman, Johnson, and Jacob Emerson.
