Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's Basketball controlled nearly all 40 minutes as they took down Edinboro 91-63 to improve to 22-4 (16-4 PSAC) on Saturday night on Owen McCormick Court. The Lakers have now won all four games against Erie County teams this season.
How it Happened
In the opening minutes, both teams looked evenly matched as each held small leads before exchanging them. The Lakers took the lead for good at 15:44 on a MiyKah McIntosh three-pointer in the middle of a 12-point run that ended with them ahead 17-9.
The Lakers kept their distance for the rest of the first half, heading to the locker room ahead 42-31.
Ahead by a comfortable margin in the second half, the Lakers pulled out the theatrics, with Jeff Planutis and Pipeloluwa Ajayi stuffing the rim with some jaw-dropping dunks.
Up by 26 in the final minute, Head Coach Gary Manchel gave some lesser-used players time on the court, allowing Marcin Wiszomirski to nail a three to bring the final score to 91-63.
By the Numbers
The Lakers continued their turnover dominance, forcing 20 turnovers while turning the ball over just 7 times themselves. Mercyhurst capitalized on the turnovers with 26 points.
Planutis led all scorers with 21 points, followed closely by McIntosh's 18 and Nicholas Lang's 17 points. No Edinboro player scored more than 14 points.
