Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey team faced AIC in front a packed house at the Mercyhurst Ice Center, the Lakers fell 5-1 in the first half of the weekend series.
How it Happened
AIC opened the scoring at the 3:16 mark of the first period.
Less than three minutes later at the 6:03 mark the Lakers knotted the game at one. Marko Reifenberger was the beneficiary of a turnover by the Yellow Jacket. Reifenberger rifled one past the AIC goalie from the slot.
After the first period, the Lakers were outshot 10-8 but the teams were tied at one.
In the second period, AIC struck at the 2:04, 6:02, and 8:22 marks to make the game 4-1. Mercyhurst allowed 14 shots on goal while generating eight shots.
AIC added one more in the third at the 14:03 mark and the Lakers didn't take advantage of their two power plays in the final frame.
The final shot totals were 31-27 in favor of AIC, Kyle McClellan made 26 saves in the loss.
Playoff Picture
Despite the loss the Lakers still sit in ninth place of Atlantic Hockey. Mercyhurst can still earn nine points in the remaining three games, just eight points separate ninth place and fourth place. The Lakers can not move to tenth this week after Holy Cross was swept by Army.
