Slippery Rock, Pa.—Grace Centrulla's double-double was not enough as the Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team suffered an overtime loss at Slippery Rock Wednesday night.
How it Happened
After Slippery Rock raced out to a 21-13 lead in the first quarter, the Lakers played catch-up in the second. Early points from Nicolette Arnold and Julia Buchman and a pair of three-pointers from Grace Clary cut the lead down to two points with 7:26 left in the half.
The Rock grew their lead back up to 11 points, but Mercyhurst scored the final nine points in the half to make it 34-32 at the half.
The pattern continued in the third quarter, with Slippery Rock jumping out to a 12-point lead before the Lakers reigned them back in. After the third, Slippery Rock led 49-46.
Clary nailed a three-pointer early in the fourth to tie the game, and a layup from Centrulla gave the Lakers their first lead since the first quarter.
Mercyhurst would not trail for the rest of regulation, but Slippery Rock took advantage of the foul game and a last-second layup from Daeja Quick to tie the game and force overtime.
Both teams exchanged the lead early, but Slippery Rock pulled ahead in the final minute to hold on for the win.
By the Numbers
After starting the season 2-0 in overtime games, the Lakers have not earned a win in 2022 in three different overtime games.
Centrulla finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds to post her seventh double-double of the season. Clary rode 4-5 shooting from three-point range to score 14 points.
