Boucher’s Hat Trick Helps Women’s Hockey Take Down Orange

Erie, Pa.—Sophomore Sara Boucher finished off her hat trick early in the second period, helping the Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team to a 9-0 rout of Syracuse at home Friday afternoon.

After a relatively quiet first 14 minutes, Boucher netted her first pair of goals to start the scoring for the Lakers at 14:52 and 17:23. Her first was assisted by Vanessa Upson and Liliane Perreault, while Perreault and Jordan Mortlock assisted her with the second.

Graduate student Kristy Pidgeon picked up her ninth goal of the season at 18:19 to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead as they went to the locker room for the first time.

The Orange made a change in net from Arielle DeSmet to Allison Small for the second period, but the Lakers jumped on her early with a Marielle Parks goal just over two minutes into the period. Pinto picked up her second assist of the game, and Jersey Phillips had the secondary assist.

Boucher sealed the hat trick less than a minute later with an unassisted goal at 2:54, her 15th goal of the season. Chantal Ste-Croix joined the party with her 11th goal of the season that was assisted by Pidgeon as well as goaltender Ena Nystrøm.

Perreault found the back of the net at 1:54 in the third period and again at 4:40 to make it 8-0. Ste-Croix became the third Laker to score a second goal in the game when she added Mercyhurst's ninth in the final minute.

The nine Laker goals tied their season-high that they set back on Oct. 8 against Franklin Pierce, and was the most goals allowed by the Orange this season.

The Lakers and Orange will wrap-up their series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. in the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Mercyhurst will be celebrating Senior Day following the conclusion of the game.
