Erie, Pa – Women's Basketball prepares for pair of important games against PSAC East opponents. They are scheduled to take on Shippensburg on Sunday, December 18th, at 1:00 p.m. and follow that with a matchup against Lock Haven on Monday, December 19th, at the same time.
1. Good Start
The Lakers are currently 5-3 on the season, as they defeated Lake Erie by a score of 76-66 last Saturday and extended their winning streak to three. They have played only two conference games so far, as they fell to West Chester on Friday, December 2nd, and defeated Millersville on Saturday, December 3rd. The Lakers also recorded a historic win in an exhibition match against DI University at Buffalo. Mercyhurst is looking to climb up in PSAC Standings with two wins in the upcoming games and finishing strong before the holiday break.
2. Individual Performance
Mercyhurst showcased a team-oriented brand of basketball, with multiple players capable of catching fire and taking over a game. Jayde Boyd leads the charge with 13 points per game on 45% shooting and an impressive 41% from three. She is helped by Julia Buchman with 12.5 points and 17 three-pointers made this season on great efficiency. Danielle Grim averages 10.4 points and plays hard on both sides of the floor, as she leads the team in steals with 19 and has also recorded seven blocks so far this season. Grace Centrulla and Lexi Wagner work hard to clean the glass as they both average 5.5 rebounds per game while Centrulla also has seven rejections.
3. Team Stats
The Lakers score 80.1 points per game on 43.5% from the field and an impressive 38% from three. They also do a good job on the defensive side of the court, as they force their opponents to 19.4 turnovers per game and turn their mistakes into offense as they average 20 points off turnovers. The Lakers also share the ball well and record 14 assists per game.
4. Scouting Shippensburg
The Raiders come into the Sunday game with 7-1 overall record, and 2-0 conference one, as they defeated Slippery Rock and 15th-ranked Cal (Pa). Ariel Jones returned from the injury this season and she didn't miss a beat as she is dominating the competition with 21 points per game. She is helped by Treasure George with 12.5 and Lauren Pettis with 10.9. Pettis also averages ten rebounds per game, and five of them offensive. Stopping her inside will be the key to winning the game on Sunday.
5. Scouting Lock Haven
The Bald Eagles are coming to Erie on Sunday, December 18th, to take on Edinboro first and are scheduled to follow that with a game against the Lakers on Monday, December 19th. They are currently 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in the PSAC. They proved they can be a dangerous team as they defeated Cal (Pa) and Seton Hill. Alana Robinson averages 13 points per game and she is helped by Brooke Lawyer with 9.7. Robinson also leads her team in rebounds, assists, and blocks so slowing her down is set to be an important challenge on Monday.
