Lakers Prepare for Weekend Slate

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Women's Basketball travels east to compete against West Chester University and Millersville University on back-to-back nights to round out the weekend. They play against the West Chester Golden Rams on Friday, December 2nd, at 5:30 p.m. The next day the Lakers will take on the Millersville Marauders on Saturday, December 3rd, at 1:00 p.m.

1. Dominating Roberts Wesleyan

In the Lakers home opener, they defeated Roberts Wesleyan by a convincing score of 96-61. Mercyhurst had an early lead against the Red Hawks and never looked back from there. The Lakers dominated on offense as well as defense. On offense the Lakers managed to drain 19 three-pointers with Lexi Wagner scoring seven of them herself, finishing with 23 points to be the leading scorer for the game. On defense, the Lakers forced 22 turnovers and held their opponents to 61 total points on 37% shooting from the floor.

2. Three Game Win Streak

The Lakers are on a hot streak after their past three games. Their current streak includes a 70-49 win against Tiffin University, a historic win of 70-68 over the University at Buffalo, and their most recent game against Roberts Wesleyan College with a score of 96-61. The Lakers are looking to continue this streak with two tough opponents this weekend.

3. PPG Athlete of the Week

Julia Buchman was named last week's PPG's Athlete of the week as Buchman made a major difference in helping the team overcome Tiffin after winning 70-49. Buchman had 17 points on 55% shooting from the field while leading the team in both field goals (6) and three-point makes (4). She was also an asset on defense with three steals.

4. Forgotten History

This is the first time the Lakers and the Golden Rams have played since 2019. The last time they played, it was at West Chester and the Lakers pulled away with a win after a score of 57-55. The last time the Lakers faced Millersville was also in 2019. The Lakers won with a score of 76-69.

5. Scouting the Opponents

Before starting conference play, Millersville is currently ranked second in the PSAC of the East teams. They have won four games and lost one. In the Marauder's last game, they played Penn State Abington, coming away with a win of 92-37. They are now on a win streak of three games with the Marauders having scored 90+ points in the past three games. The Golden Rams are ranked sixth in the PSAC East with an overall record of 2-2. They have won their past two games against Chestnut Hill College and Jefferson, scoring over 50 points in both of their games.
