JOHNSTOWN, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Volleyball team fell in straight sets to Pitt-Johnstown on Friday evening.
How it Happened
The Lakers staredt in an early deficit going down 4-0 in the first set. Kills from
Kylie Schnars and
Alexa Mitchell started the Laker offense, but they allowed UPJ to go on a six-point run to go up 14-3. Mercyhurst tried to rally late in the set going on a 7-1 run with a kill from
Kate Hennessy and an ace from Mitchell, but they couldn't complete the comeback falling 25-15.
Set two started as a tight run between the Mountain Cats and Lakers. A kill from Hennessy tied things at seven before UPJ went on several multi-point streaks to take the lead. Mercyhurst had a four-point run late in the set; however, they allowed seven points from the Mountain Cats falling 25-17.
In the final set, the teams started by traded points tying things at five. Mercyhurst again allowed a long streak from UPJ putting them up 17-10. Kills from
Paige Miller and
Maggie Thomas couldn't help the Lakers force another set as they dropped set three 25-21.
By the Numbers
Hennessy, Schnars, and Miller had four kills apiece. Schnars also recorded three blocks while Mitchell set the table nine times.
