Kent, Oh. – Mercyhurst Women's Basketball fell to Kent State in an exhibition match. Despite great efforts, the Lakers lost their final tuneup as the Golden Flashes won the game by a score of 72-40.
How It Happened
The Lakers started the game slowly, as Kent State took an early lead and jumped in front 18-3 in the first quarter. Mercyhurst stepped on the gas in the second quarter, when they went on a 7-0 run and brought the deficit to eight points going into the break.
Kent State came out of the locker room full of energy and determination, as they kept going inside, drawing multiple fouls, and scoring in the paint. The Golden Flashes won the third quarter by six points and finished the job in the fourth, eventually winning the game by a score of 72-40.
By The Numbers
Lexi Wagner, a graduate transfer from Youngstown State, led the charge for the Lakers with 15 points, six rebounds, and four steals. She was helped by freshman Bailey Kuhns as she put up eight points in 14 minutes of playing time. Kent State did a good job capitalizing on scoring opportunities under the basket, as half of their points came from the paint. They also scored 23 points of turnovers.
What's Next
The Lakers are set to begin their regular season campaign on Friday, November 11th in the PSAC vs MEC Challenge. They are scheduled to play Charleston and follow that with another game on Saturday, November 12th, against West Liberty.
