Men's Soccer Falls to Post in NCAA Tournament

Erie, Pa – Mercyhurst Men's Soccer falls to Post University after an intense battle at home. The Eagles defeat the Lakers by a score of 2-0 and move on to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

How It Happened
The beginning of the game saw a lot of back-and-forth action as both teams were very cautious pushing the ball forward, especially because of the rain and harsh weather conditions. The Lakers were playing a very physical brand of soccer and putting their body on the line on every play.

Dylan Sumner tried his luck in the 20th minute of the match with a nice shot, but he missed it to the right. Post's Carles Aliberch got near Mercyhurst's goal couple minutes later, but his shot went out right. Both teams had trouble getting on the opponent's side as the first half seen only four shots in total and none of the on target, and the Lakers went into the break with a tie, 0-0.

The second half looked very similar and was full of the physical play from the Lakers and the Eagles. Players would often find themselves tackling for the ball and falling on the ground. Lockie Fay took two nice shots early, but he missed both.

The Eagles struck in the 77th minute of the match as Omar Florindo rebounded the ball bounced out by Jonathan Gomes and netted the goal with a curved shot to the right. After the goal, the Lakers started applying a lot of pressure, as they were doing everything they could to tie the game.

Fay had one more opportunity in 87th minute of the game, but his shot missed slightly to the left. The Eagles scored one more goal in transition and eventually won the game by a score of 2-0.

By The Numbers
Mercyhurst took five shots and none of them on goal, whereas the Eagles took eight and four of them on target. The Lakers drew three corner kicks, and their opponents drew four. Jonathan Gomes recorded four saves.
