Women's Soccer Falls to Gannon in Last Game of Regular Season

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Women's Soccer falls to Gannon in the final match of their regular season as the Lady Knights win the game by a score of 3-1.

How It Happened

The beginning of the match saw a lot of back-and-forth action as both teams tried to establish themselves on the field. In the 14th minute of the match, Amber Thomas tried her luck with a nice shot but couldn't beat the Lady Knights' goalkeeper.

In the 34th minute Gannon's Ella Fadale tested Maddie Elbro with a strong kick, as she saved the ball from going into the net. Just three minutes later Madison Hoover received the ball from Teagan Mehalko and scored a beautiful goal, putting the Lakers in the lead. The Lakers held on to their advantage and went into the break winning 1-0.

The Lady Knights came out of the locker room with a lot of energy and determination, as they started creating more scoring opportunities. Their efforts paid off in the 59th minute when Fadale headed the ball into Mercyhurst's goal, tying the game 1-1. Just 30 seconds later, Gannon pushed the ball forward and rushed inside the penalty box when the referee called a questionable foul giving the Lady Knights a penalty kick.

Elbro saved the shot with her foot, but the referee called a violation because she moved her feet from the goal line before the kick. Fadale tried again and this time she was successful, as she extended the lead to 2-1.

The Lakers worked hard to tie the game but couldn't do it. They had a corner kick with 30 seconds on the clock, as they brought Elbro on the offense. They didn't score, though, and Gannon kicked the ball inside the Mercyhurst goal from afar, eventually winning by a score of 3-1.

By The Numbers

The Lakers created multiple scoring situations as they took eight shots through the game and four of them were on target. Their opponents took 11 shots and four of them were on goal. Gannon drew nine corner kicks and capitalized on one of them.
