How It Happened
The beginning of the match saw a lot of back-and-forth action as both teams tried to take initiative on the field. The Lakers struck in 9th minute of the game, when Sean Kerrigan scored off of a penalty kick, giving the Lakers an early lead.
He netted another just four minutes later when Dylan Sumner passed him the ball from the right side of the field. Kerrigan kicked the ball in, beating the Griffin's goalkeeper once again for his 13th goal of the season.
The Lakers didn't stop there, as in 25th minute of the match Sumner received the ball from Nic Münch, beat his defender, and put the ball in the net with a shot to the right. Münch scored a goal on his own couple minutes later after a great pass by Ben Friedlander, as he extended the lead to 4-0.
Mercyhurst came back after the break with a lot of energy and kept applying pressure straight from the kick-off. Just a couple minutes into the second half, Friedlander beat the Griffin's goalkeeper with a beautiful header off the corner kick from Sumner for his first goal in Mercyhurst uniform.
The Lakers kept going as they put the ball in the opponent's net once again. Sumner crossed the ball inside and found Kerrigan for a diving header to the middle for his third goal in the game and 14th on the season while giving him hat trick number one of his career.
