Indiana, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team started off strong but ultimately fell 77-58 to No. 21 Indiana (Pa.) on the road Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Lakers started off virtually shot-for-shot with the Crimson Hawks in the first 10 minutes, leaving IUP with a 17-14 lead after the first frame.
The Crimson Hawks were able to pull away temporarily with a pair of eight-point leads in the second quarter, but a three-pointer from
Julia Buchman in the final minute brought the deficit at halftime back to just three points.
The tide changed in the third quarter, when Indiana put up 21 points to Mercyhurst's 12, and the Lakers found themselves playing catch-up the rest of the way.
By the Numbers
Grace Centrulla nearly posted her sixth double-double of the season as she led the Lakers with 13 points and brought down nine rebounds. Buchman finished with 12 points while Jayde Boyd put up 11.
Despite a strong start, the Lakers labored as the game went on. Meanwhile, the Crimson Hawks saw more production out of their bench, who put up 31 points while Mercyhurst's non-starters added just 11 to the effort.
