Erie, Pa.—Women's Ice Hockey's Vanessa Upson and Men's Basketball's MiyKah McIntosh have been named the latest PPG Paints Student-Athletes of the Week.
Upson was honored as the CHA's Rookie of the Week last week and followed it up with the Lakers' two opening goals in the first 11 minutes of Friday's game against Lindenwood. On Saturday, the Stoney Creek, Ontario, native added an assist as well as two more goals, one shorthanded goal and a powerplay goal to give her team some insurance in the final period.
After the monster weekend, Upson continues to lead all Division I freshmen with 16 goals on the season. The Lakers will take this weekend off before returning to action Jan. 28-29 with a trip to Penn State.
In three games last week, McIntosh averaged 19.7 points while shooting a blistering 55.6 percent from three-point range. The senior from Pickering, Ontario, also made all seven of his free-throw attempts over the week and posted eight steals.
McIntosh's scoring spree landed him at No. 13 on Mercyhurst's career points leaderboard with 1,114. The men's basketball team will be back on the court Wednesday as they head down to Edinboro before returning home to Owen McCormick Court to host California (Pa.) Saturday.
