Box Score Kutztown, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team forced overtime against the PSAC East-leading Golden Bears, but the Lakers lost 73-68 in Kutztown Saturday.
How it Happened
The Lakers were holding tough against Kutztown, finishing the first quarter down 20-15 and tying the game up in the second quarter, but the Golden Bears went on a 15-point run to close out the final four minutes of the first half to take a 38-23 lead into halftime.
The Lakers emerged from the locker room with a new energy, outscoring Kutztown 14-12 in the third quarter and 22-9 in the fourth to finish regulation tied 59-59. Down by three in the final seconds, Jayde Boyd was fouled on her way up for a layup. She made the basket and the foul shot to tie the game with seven seconds left.
Grace Centrulla gave the Lakers an early lead in overtime with a layup at 4:43, but the Golden Bears bounced back and held on for the win.
By the Numbers
Kutztown's Rylee Derr led all scorers with 25 points, but the Lakers had the next three with Boyd netting 16, Centrulla finishing with 15 and Nicolette Arnold adding 14 points. Arnold made her 2021-22 debut and added five rebounds over 23 minutes in the effort.
