Men's Hockey Falls Short to AIC

Springfield, Mass.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey put up a fight against AIC but could not complete a comeback as they fell 6-3 to the Yellow Jackets.

How it Happened

The opening period consisted of Kyle McClellan stopping all but one of 15 shots that were thrown his way. AIC opened the scoring at the 7:23 mark of the period. The Lakers were down just one despite being outshot 15-4.

Just like the opening game of the weekend the second period was full of goals for both teams, all of which happened in the second half of the period.

AIC scored at 10:03 mark to make it a 2-0 game.

Dante Sheriff made sure their 2-0 lead was short lived as he scored a highlight goal with a toe drag to make it 2-1 and get the Lakers on the board. Pierce Crawford earned his sixth assist of the season.

17 seconds later, the Yellow Jackets took the two goal lead back. AIC beat McClellan once more at the 14:16 mark of the middle frame to make it 4-1.

The fifth ranked power play struck for the 21st time as Gueorgui Feduolov scored his fifth goal of the season on a stuff play in front of the net with under four minutes remaining in the middle frame. Mercyhurst went to the locker room down 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining in regulation.

At the 6:20 mark of the final frame Noah Kane picked up his fifth goal of the season as Jonathan Bendorf notched his tenth assist of the season. Dustin Geregach earned his first collegiate point with an assist.

Mercyhurst could not complete the comeback as AIC scored at the 13:06 mark and then an empty net goal with just over two minutes remaining.

In his first game since Dec. 12, McClellan made 38 saves. It was his seventh game this season in which he made 30 or more saves and his sixth with 35 or more.
