Erie, Pa.—The Lakers continued their winning ways Monday with an afternoon win over visiting Clarion, 101-66.
How it Happened
Despite Mercyhurst jumping out to an early lead, the Golden Eagles found themselves clawing back to tie and eventually take a temporary lead at 13:06 in the first half when Connor Ferrell was fouled ona three-pointer attempt that he made, and made the ensuing free throw.
Mercyhurst quickly regained the lead, and although Clarion would tie things up two more times, the Golden Eagles would not hold the lead again. Mercyhurst built from there, ending the half up 54-36.
From there, the Lakers needed only to hold onto their lead. Leading by at least 30 points for the final 12 minutes, Mercyhurst was able to turn things over to their bench in the final minutes. Junior Ciaran Sandy scored the final four points for the Lakers, including putting them over the century mark for the second time this season.
By the Numbers
The Lakers converted 24 Clarion turnovers into 36 points, while only turning over the ball six times themselves. That turnover margin (18) was the second-highest for Mercyhurst this season (19 against Daemen on Nov. 18).
Steve Cannady led all scorers with 21 points, followed closely by MiyKah McIntosh with 20 points. Jeff Planutis (18 points) and Michael Bradley (13 points) both finished with six rebounds to lead Mercyhurst.
