Women's Soccer Starts PSAC West Play Against Edinboro

Erie, Pa—After starting their season on the road, the Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team starts PSAC West play tomorrow against Edinboro. On Sept. 11 the Lakers head to Daemen for their final non-conference game of the season.

The Matchups

Mercyhurst is 10-9-5 against the Fighting Scots all-time. In the last five matches with Edinboro, the Lakers are 1-2-2. In 2019, the teams played three times with Edinboro defeating the Lakers twice including in the first round of the PSAC playoffs.

The Lakers and Wildcats have played six times since 2007, girls in green have won all six games. Mercyhurst has outscored the Wildcats 14-3 in the all-time series. Mercyhurst and Daeman last played on Sept. 18, 2018 with the Lakers winning 3-0.

What's Poppin?

The Lakers started their season on Sept. 4 with a 2-1 victory over Davis & Elkins College. Karah Van Horn scored her first two collegiate goals. Maddie Elbro made five saves for the Lakers, as they allowed just seven shots total. Mercyhurst generated eight corner kicks while allowing just two from the Senators.

Coach's Corner

Head Coach Jon Arlet was excited for his young team after the season opening win. "I'm proud of the team on their first time out with so many new faces and nearly two years removed from our last season. There was a competitive spirit and I'm especially proud of the sideline support the entire match." Arlet was excited to see his young goalkeeper and forward succeed in their first regular season match. "Maddie (Elbro) saved us in a big way today at moments and she deserves a lot of credit. Not to mention Karah continuing to find the back of the net. That being said- it took everyone today. Lot of lessons and we will be better for making the trip to West Virginia. "

Scouting Edinboro

The Fighting Scots opened their season with a 1-0 win over Notre Dame College on Sept. 4. Morgan Wissner scored the lone goal of the match. Anna Voelker earned the clean sheet in net, making four saves in net.

Scouting Daemen

The Wildcats started their season 0-2 after losses to Wilmington and Golden-Beacom. Alyssa Diaz scored the lone goal for Daemen this season. Tori DeLappi has made starts in both games making 13 saves on 18 shots.

Up Next

The Lakers continue PSAC West play on Sept. 15 against Gannon and Slippery Rock on Sept. 18.
