Women's Soccer Starts Important Week in PSAC Play

Erie, PA—Mercyhurst Women's Soccer is back on the pitch this week for a pair of conference games against UPJ and Seton Hill. Mercyhurst and UPJ play Wednesday on the Mercyhurst Soccer Field, the Griffins host the Lakers on Sunday.

The Matchups

The Lakers and Mountain Cats have matched up 10 times dating back to 2007 with the Lakers winning all 10 games. The two PSAC West schools last played on Oct. 26, 2019 with the Lakers winning 2-0.

Seton Hill and Mercyhurst had their first match in 1988 and have played a total of 12 times. The Lakers hold a 9-3 record all-time and won the last matchup 4-1 in 2019.

We are Vibin

The Lakers started last week with a 0-0 tie against Gannon, on Saturday the Lakers defeated Slippery Rock for the first time since 2009. Emily Mijares netted the game winning goal against The Rock to win 1-0. Maddie Elbro made 19 saves in net for the Lakers on her way to her first two career clean sheets. Karah Van Horn leads the Lakers in goals and points with two goals, Mijaares has one goal and an assist, while Amata Valentini has the other Laker goal this season.

She's A Brick Wall

Elbro was named to the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week after her two clean sheets this week. The Kinver, UK native has a .77 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. She has also made 32 saves this season which is her first collegiate championship season.

Standings Check

The Lakers have four points in PSAC West play which put them tied for fourth with IUP. Both Seton Hill and UPJ have three points this season. Edinboro leads the division with 12 points.

Scouting UPJ

The Mountain Cats are 2-4 to start the season and 1-3 in conference play. UPJ has wins over Mansfield and Seton Hill this season. Morgan Kost and Lydia Roman both have nine points to lead UPJ, Kost has three goals and three assists while Roman has four goals and one assist. Three goalies have seen time in net with Sachi Negri starting in five games.

Scouting Seton Hill

The Griffins started their season 2-0 with wins over West Liberty and Gannon but they have dropped their last two games. Seton Hill plays Clarion Wednesday prior to facing the Lakers. Five different players have scored for the Griffins with each of them having one. Grace Kenyon has seen the most time in net making 21 saves in just over 317 minutes.

The Lakers continue conference play next week with two home games against Clarion and IUP.
