Women's Soccer Adds Volunteer Assistant

Erie, PA—Women's Soccer Head Coach Jon Arlet has announced an addition to his coaching staff as Sombath Inthavong ("Bot") will be joining the staff as a volunteer assistant in the fall.

Inthavong brings a lot of experience with him as he has over 20 years of time on the sideline along with collegiate playing experience, he played for Geneva College from 1997 to 2000. Following his playing career, he started coaching club soccer in 2000. Since 2000, Bot has coached for many clubs including the Erie Lightning, Erie United, Lake Erie Soccer, Erie Admirals, and MSA as part of the youth development team.

In 2006, Inthavong moved to coaching high school. From 2006 to 2015 he coached the Mercyhurst Prep Boys soccer team and led them to five Division 10 Championships while being the PIAA State Runner Up twice. In 2014, he also led the Mercyhurst Prep Girls team to a Division 10 Championship and was a PIAA State Semifinalist. After 10 years with the Lakers, he became the head coach for the Iroquois High School Boys team. In six seasons with the Braves, he won three Division 10 titles and was a runner up twice.

Arlet is excited to bring on a coach who once coached him and has valuable experience "we are delighted to welcome Bot to the Mercyhurst Women's Soccer family.  I've known Bot for over 20 years; in fact, I had Bot as a coach in my early youth club soccer days growing up in Erie.  To have him join the staff two decades later is pretty incredible."

"We are on to something here.  We as a program recognize the progress and growth over the last several years…and all the hard work that has put us in this position.  Bot is joining us at an exciting time and I'm confident this addition will once again push our program forward- his decision to join us is for all the right reasons, and we can't wait for August."

Inthavong works full time as a Product Rating and Analytics Manager with the Erie Insurance Group, while co-owning Khao Thai Restaurant. His wife Jessica and their three children, Madden, Makayla, and Kenslie reside in Erie.
