ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst softball team will have a busy week as the Lakers play four-games with Pitt-Johnstown and a twin bill with Edinboro over four days.
The Games
The Lakers open their four-game set with UPJ on Saturday in Johnstown. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. On Monday, Mercyhurst returns home for a doubleheader at the Mercyhurst Softball Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
The Lakers will then wrap up their four-game set with Edinboro on Tuesday at home with a 2:30 p.m. first pitch with the second game to follow.
Last Time Out
Mercyhurst scored 24 runs two games against Edinboro including 16 in the opener, which is the most by the Lakers since March 1, 2010 when they scored 21 against Ave Maria. It was the most runs for Mercyhurst against a Division II opponent since scoring 23 against Salem University on March 21, 2009.
With the Bats
The Lakers have hit 17 home runs in 14 contests led by four from Sarah Koscho and Allison Dejidas. Madison Fry collected six hits in last Saturday's contests and now leads the team with a .473 average and 15 runs scored from the leadoff spot. Cheyenne Hindman adds a .435 average with 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. Koscho and Marisa Cartellone are both batting over .400 with averages of .413 and .410 respectively.
In the Circle
Mikaela Schramski has pitched 26.1 innings on the season while posting a 2.73 ERA. She has struck out 22, walked 16 and pitched one shutout. Morgan Hilty adds 30.1 innings with a 2-1 record and one save.
Scouting the Mountain Cats
UPJ is 3-11 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC West Olivia Porter leads the Mountain Cat offense with a .365 average, 10 extra base hits and 11 RBI. Bree Ginther chips in a .316 average with eight runs scored.
Alyssa Hileman has a 1-4 record and a 3.46 ERA in five starts to lead the pitching staff.
Scouting the Scots
Edinboro comes into the contest with a 3-7 overall record and in the PSAC West. Maura Pasquale is batting .500 with a home run, a triple and two doubles. Julia Hill and Lauren Gierlak have posted a .333 and .316 average respectively.
Macy Sral has started five games for the Scots with a 4.89 ERA and a 3-2 record.
Spectator Policy
- No visiting team spectators will be permitted at the site of the competition.
- Tailgating is prohibited before or after any athletic event.
- There will be no contact with student-athletes or mingling between student-athletes and team personnel before or after events.
- Masks must be worn at all times -indoors and outdoors – while on campus and at an off campus MU athletic home competition site. Fans must also practice social distancing.
- Gates will open 30 minutes prior to the official game start time. Fans must leave immediately after the completion of the game.
- Before spectators arrive at Mercyhurst campus, they must complete the Mercyhurst Guest Screening. www.mercyhurst.edu/guest
- Upon arrival, spectators will go to the check in table to show successful completion of guest screening on a mobile device.
- Spectators will not be permitted into events without being on game spectator list.
- Spectators sitting in bleachers will sit in designated areas that are marked for proper social distancing.
- Spectators sitting in personal chairs must follow the family groups of 4 or less and social distance from other groups.
- Families will be required to stay in their pods from other groups.
- Concessions will not be available
- Spectators will be required to vacate the facility within 15 minutes of the conclusion of the event.
- Any spectator refusing to comply with these policies will be immediately removed from the facility or denied entry. This policy will be strictly enforced.
