Men’s Hockey Falls to Niagara in AHA First Round

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's hockey team saw their season come to a close with a 3-2 loss to visiting Niagara Monday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Lakers jumped out early when Josh McDougall threw a puck to the front of the net that came off the Niagara defender and behind Chad Veltri just 2:45 into the contest to make it 1-0.

Mercyhurst took that advantage into the first intermission. Carson Briere extended the lead with his tally just 2:07 into the second.

Ludwig Stenlund cut the lead in half with his power play goal at the 8:42 mark of the second. The Purple Eagles knotted the game 2-2 on a Ryan Cox score with 12:12 gone in the period.

Walker Sommer scored the game-winner with 4:07 to play in the third. The Lakers peppered Veltri in the final two minutes but couldn't find the equalizer.

Kyle McClellan took the loss between the pipes making 32 saves. The Lakers finished the season 8-12-1 overall.
